Deachman: Ottawa’s ‘inclusive’ dog park policy drives small dogs away

Shelley Creaser is the owner of Meka, a four-year-old Morkie, a Maltese/Yorkshire Terrier mix who weighs about seven pounds soaking wet. Meka’s experience at off-leash dog parks has not been positive. At the Sylvia Holden dog park at Lansdowne, two larger dogs began growling and play-fighting. Terrified, Meka bolted, squeezing under the fence and skedaddling down an adjacent street. On other occasions, large friendly dogs simply want to play with her, but are far too rough given her diminutive size.
