A 39-year-old Ottawa man faces several impaired-driving-related charges following a four-vehicle collision on Highway 417 late Friday night.

OPP said in a release that police were called shortly before 11:30 p.m. to the crash in the westbound lanes near Metcalfe Road.

Officers suspected one of the drivers was under the influence of alcohol and a roadside screening test was used. However, the driver later refused to provide breath samples to an OPP testing specialist.

As a result, the driver was charged with operation while impaired, refusal to comply with testing, dangerous operation of a vehicle, two counts of driving while prohibited and operating a vehicle without insurance.

The accused’s driver’s licence was immediately suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Two people, including the accused, suffered minor injuries and were transported to hospital by EMS.

The accused is to appear in an Ottawa court at a later date.
