The Ottawa Police Service said Wednesday that a “person in their 40s” involved in a crash earlier in the day had registered nearly twice the legal limit for alcohol.

Emergency crews were called to a single-vehicle crash just after midnight in the west-end area near Dwyer Hill Road and Roger Stevens Drive.

Police found a vehicle that had crashed into a ditch, then struck a hydro pole.

The driver was arrested and tested for alcohol consumption. He registered 130 milligrams in the blood alcohol concentration test. The legal limit is 80.

Police did not mention any injuries.

“As we enter the holiday season, please plan a safe ride home if you intend to consume alcohol or drugs,” police said in their release.
