Driving instructor taught lesson after caught using phone on 417

A 50-year-old Ottawa driving instructor was taught a lesson Wednesday morning when they were stopped for distracted driving on Highway 417 near Moodie Drive.

Ontario Provincial Police posted on social media that the driver was spotted scrolling through their phone while it was attached to the dashboard.

“A reminder that even if you are not holding your phone, you cannot scroll through it while driving,” police said in the release.

The driver now faces a $615 fine, three demerit points and a three-day driving suspension upon conviction.
