A 39-year-old man from Ottawa and a 31-year-old woman from Chapeau, Que., are facing multiple drug-related charges after the vehicle they were in was stopped and searched by Ontario Provincial Police in Pembroke on Wednesday.
A Jan. 22 news release from the OPP said the force’s East Region Community Street Crime Unit stopped the vehicle on Alfred Street after identifying the person behind the wheel as an individual who was prohibited from driving.
The search of the vehicle led to the seizure of more than 184 grams of suspected cocaine, nearly 22 grams of suspected crack cocaine, more than 61 grams of suspected fentanyl, nearly 180 grams of suspected crystal methamphetamine, nearly 81 grams of suspected MDMA and quantities of hydromorphone pills and morphine, the release said.
The man from Ottawa was charged with:
- Six counts of possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking
- Possession of a Schedule 3 substance for the purpose of trafficking
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000
- Operation while impaired
- Refusing to provide a breath sample
- Driving while under suspension
The woman from Chapeau, which is north of Pembroke, was charged with:
- Six counts of possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking
- Possession of a Schedule 3 substance for the purpose of trafficking
- Failing to comply with a probation order
Both individuals were scheduled to appear in court in Pembroke for bail hearings on Jan. 22, police said.
