Two men from Embrun in eastern Ontario have been charged in connection with a serious assault at Picton, Ontario Provincial Police said Tuesday.

The two men, ages 19 and 20, were both charged with unauthorized possession of a weapon, possession of an imitation weapon for a dangerous purpose and obstructing justice, and the 20-year-old was also charged with attempted murder.

Both remained in custody and were scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on Oct. 28, an OPP news release said.

On Oct. 24, around 11:15 p.m., officers with the OPP’s Prince Edward County detachment responded to a report of an assault with a weapon outside a convenience store on Paul Street in Picton.

A 35-year-old man was transported to a regional trauma centre with serious, but non-life-threatening stab wounds. He continued to undergo treatment on Tuesday, police said.

During the investigation, officers recovered multiple weapons. Two individuals were arrested shortly after the incident with assistance from the Tyendinaga Police Service, the OPP said, adding that the investigation was ongoing.

Picton is about 270 kilometres southwest of Ottawa and about 260 kilometres from Embrun.
