The hours of operation on Eglinton Line 5 are expanding as of April 5, about two months after it officially opened to the public.
Train service will be extended to 12:30 a.m. on Saturdays and 1:20 a.m. Sunday to Friday.
“These expanded service hours are the next step as the TTC and Metrolinx work towards full, regularly scheduled service on Line 5,” said the TTC in a news release.
Trains will run every four minutes during the busiest times of the day and every six to 10 minutes during off-peak hours.
Line 5 shuttle buses will remain available to supplement LRT service as required, and the Blue Night bus service will continue to operate from 1 a.m. until train service starts at 6 a.m. Monday to Saturday and 7:30 a.m. on Sundays.
When the Line 5 service came online in February, the TTC and Metrolinx said it would take a phased approach to the opening “under temporary introductory service conditions.”
Explaining the work that took place during this phase, the TTC said they were able to continue stress testing switch and signal infrastructure, fine-tune schedules based on real-world conditions and take advantage of an extended overnight maintenance window.
In mid-march, the City of Toronto implemented traffic signal priority on the line, allowing LRT trains to move through all intersections before left-turning vehicles.
The TTC says more transit priority measures are “in the works” and will be rolled out over the coming months.
“This next phase in the opening of Line 5 Eglinton will include additional trains, more reliable round-trip travel times, and the completion of transit signal priority along Eglinton,” they said.
