Elgin Street blocked after firefighters converge on downtown building

A cluster of fire trucks and cruisers filled the block of 160 Elgin late Saturday morning after a hydro vault fire forced the closure of southbound lanes on Elgin and stalled traffic along Gloucester.

The response drew ladder trucks, police units and paramedics, though the situation was described as contained with no reported injuries.

Ottawa Police are asking drivers to avoid the area until fire services confirm it is safe to reopen. Elgin between Laurier Ave West and Nepean St. is currently blocked off.
