TORONTO – Strength in the energy and base metal sectors helped Canada’s main stock index climb higher in late-morning trading, while U.S. stock markets also rose.
The S&P/TSX composite index was up 85.06 points at 29,853.42.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 26.97 points at 46,342.24. The S&P 500 index was up 12.20 points at 6,676.56, while the Nasdaq composite was up 62.06 points at 22,693.54.
The Canadian dollar traded for 72.40 cents US compared with 72.53 cents US on Friday.
The November crude oil contract was down 32 cents US at US$62.08 per barrel.
The December gold contract was up US$55.30 at US$3,761.10 an ounce.
