TORONTO – Strength in the energy sector helped lift Canada’s main stock index in late-morning trading, while U.S. stock markets were mixed.
The S&P/TSX composite index was up 59.33 points at 29,087.06.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 93.12 points at 45,608.07. The S&P 500 index was down 0.33 points at 6,494.82, while the Nasdaq composite was down 9.69 points at 21,789.01.
The Canadian dollar traded for 72.29 cents US compared with 72.38 cents US on Monday.
The October crude oil contract was up US$1.04 at US$63.30 per barrel.
The December gold contract was up US$2.20 at US$3,679.60 an ounce.
