A coordinated response between firefighters and residents is credited with preventing a balcony fire from spreading into a McArthur Avenue high-rise in Vanier Wednesday night.
Ottawa Fire Services was alerted at about 7:40 p.m. by a monitoring company as well as 911 calls reporting a fire on the fourth floor of a building in the 100 block of McArthur Avenue.
Crews were met by a tenant who provided access to the affected unit and they quickly extinguished the balcony fire, preventing it from spreading. The fire was brought under control and contained to the balcony by 7:53 p.m.
No injuries were reported and residents were able to return to their units.
