Ottawa firefighters quickly handled a fire in Al’s Drive-in chip stand in Osgoode Thursday night that also endangered a nearby residence, and propane tanks.

The call came at about 11:25 p.m., with reports of thick grey smoke and the smell of burning plastic coming from the chip stand in the 5400 block of Osgoode Main Street.

Firefighters confirmed flames were visible from the structure and crews evacuated a nearby home as a precaution and safely disconnected and removed propane tanks from the area.

No one was inside the chip stand at the time of the fire.

“To fully extinguish the flames, firefighters removed sections of the structure’s walls to access hidden fire,” firefighters reported on social media.

The blaze was declared under control at 12:02 a.m.  The nearby home was successfully protected and sustained no damage.

An OFS investigator was dispatched to determine the cause of the fire.

No injuries were reported.
