CHARLOTTETOWN – Prince Edward Island Premier Rob Lantz has brought a former provincial government minister back into cabinet.
Cory Deagle replaces longtime caucus stalwart Steven Myers as minister of housing, land and communities.
Myers was first elected in 2011 and announced on Oct. 2 he was leaving politics.
Deagle resigned as economic development minister in February to run for leader of the Progressive Conservatives, after former premier Dennis King resigned.
Since then, Lantz has been interim party leader — and premier — but he has said he won’t seek the party’s permanent leadership.
There were no other changes announced to Lantz’s 12-member cabinet during the ceremony at Government House in Charlottetown.
“He (Deagle) knows how decisions are made around the cabinet table and how those affect municipalities, families and businesses,” Lantz said in a statement. “That experience will serve him well as we continue to move important files forward.”
Deagle joins cabinet less than a month before the fall sitting of the legislature, which is scheduled to begin Nov. 4.
