Gas prices have topped $1.80 per litre in the capital.
The continued tension in the Middle East has been behind dramatic increases in gas prices again this week, with observers forecasting another nickel-per-litre price push Wednesday, April 1 expected to move the price-per-litre to 183.9 cents.
The CAA says the average price of gas across Canada was 177.8 cents per litre on Wednesday.
Canadians for Affordable Energy president Dan McTeague predicted on his
website
on Wednesday that prices in the capital would rise again Thursday by about two cents per litre to 185.9 cents.
The increases come after prices jumped 11 cents per litre at Ottawa gas stations last weekend.
Gasoline prices have jumped about 45 cents per litre since the U.S.-Israeli invasion of Iran in February, putting prices at their highest levels since July 2022.
Industry observers explain the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and the destruction of oil production facilities in the Persian Gulf had caused crude oil prices to spike, resulting in gas prices spiking.
Diesel fuel prices have dropped about 13 cents per litre in the last two days, to about 225.9 cents per litre.
