Gatineau man facing weapon, assault charges after weekend incident

A 41-year-old Gatineau man is facing numerous charges, including assault and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, following an incident on Saturday, Feb. 28.

At about 10:30 a.m., Gatineau police responded to the Guertin Square area, where a man appeared to be in possession of a firearm, police said in a news release on Monday, March 2. They said he had also allegedly threatened a person.

Police said that, after they arrived at the scene, the man barricaded himself in a trailer, but, after talking with officers, surrendered peacefully.

Daniel Petrin-Bondu has been charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose; concealing a weapon; uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm; assault; refusal to comply with a probation order; and refusal to comply with a condition of an order.

A security perimeter was set up and remained in place into the evening as the trailer was searched. Police said they seized air guns, firearm parts and frames, ammunition of different calibres for firearms, and narcotics.

Petrin-Bondu was to appear in court Monday.
