In today’s episode of Racists Who Claim They’re Not Racist Just Because They Post Racist Things, the vice chair of the Republican Party in Wyoming is facing backlash for posting a meme that suggested feloniousness is a defining trait of Blackness. Now, you’re probably thinking: “Wait, doesn’t Donald Trump have 34 felonies under his belt?” Well, yes, and that was the joke. Apparently, Donald Trump is “Blacker” than Barack Obama because the latter has a clean criminal record.
Meet Wyoming GOP Vice Chair David Holland.
Holland, predictably, believes people are being overly “sensitive” over the “joke” he posted to his Facebook page of a photo of Trump speaking to Obama at last week’s funeral for Jimmy Carter under a caption that reads, “Do you realize, by the time I’m sworn in I’m going to be a felon that worked at McDonald’s? I’m blacker than you.”
Yeah — that’s only funny if you’re white and racist.
“I think it’s a joke, I’m not racist,” Holland commented in response to the backlash.
“Obviously, if anybody had any sense of humor they would have understood it,” he continued. “People are beyond (sensitive).”
Look, all by itself, the “joke” Holland posted was a prime example of white people getting way too comfortable. It’s the kind of humor Black people can engage in because that has always been the way we laugh to keep from crying. However, when white people start ki-kiing over a “joke” like that, Black people will always think: “Nah — that’s what y’all really think about us.”
And it is…
After all, Trump (and plenty of other white conservatives) spent his entire last campaign bragging that his mugshot and designation as a felon caused Black voters to flock to him — which they did not. Black people are also dealing with a social and political environment that has completely normalized white people referring to any Black person they see in a position of power and influence a “DEI hire” because, apparently, MAGA America doesn’t believe your average Black person is qualified to do anything besides become felons or work designated “Black jobs.”
So, no, white people, your anti-Black “jokes” aren’t funny, they’re just racist, as are you.
