A Muslim woman in her late teens was assaulted and had threats directed at her by a white man while riding an OC Transpo bus in Kanata on Monday, Ottawa police say.

The suspect being sought by police was described in an Aug. 12 news release as being in his 20s or 30s and standing approximately five feet eight inches tall with a thin build and beard.

He was not known to the woman, police said, and he left that bus in Kanata.

The news release said the Ottawa Police Service Hate and Bias Crime Unit was investigating the incident, “and we are working closely with the victim and leaders in the Muslim community to provide support and information while preserving the integrity of this ongoing investigation.”

Anyone who witnessed the incident, has photos or video of it or other related information was asked to contact the Ottawa Police Service by telephone at 613-236-1222, ext. 5015, or by email at  [email protected].
