Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the Ottawa area and Gatineau Sunday afternoon.
“Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain,” the agency said in a social media bulletin.
The communique cautions that the storms could bring wind gusts up to 90 km/h, “nickel sized hail,” heavy rainfall up to 30 mm in an hour.
The storm is expected to reach the capital sometime this afternoon into Sunday evening.
Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
Heavy rain can cause flash flooding and significant reductions to visibility.
