Here are the Greater Toronto Area’s first babies of 2025

Hospitals in Toronto and around the GTA are welcoming some of the first babies born in 2025.

Weighing nine pounds, baby Huzaifa was born just seconds after midnight at Trillium Health Partners’ Mississauga Hospital.

“We were planning for a due date of December 31, but he decided to wait until 2025 for his birthday!” parents Samreen and Mahmood said in a press release issued Wednesday morning.

Parents Chris and Machaela O’Heir welcomed their newborn baby Harper at North York General Hospital just after midnight at approximately 12:05 a.m. She weighs seven pounds and 14 ounces.

In Newmarket, baby Jamie-Lynne made her entrance at Southlake Regional Health Centre at 12:55 a.m. She weighs seven pounds and seven ounces.

“Welcoming the first baby of the new year at Southlake is such a special experience,” said Anne Gable, a Registered Nurse for the Postpartum Unit at Southlake Health. “The Birthing and Postpartum teams are thrilled for [parents] Sarah, Stephen, and Jamie-Lynne. It’s truly an honour to watch a family begin an incredible new chapter.”

Since midnight, Southlake Regional Health Centre has welcomed four new babies.

Parents Navethra Goviandarasu and Rathnagiri Athiannan welcomed their first child just before 2:00 a.m. at Oshawa Hospital. The family is still deciding on the child’s name. 

Parents Taranpreet and Vijayvir with their newborn boy Anhad.

Baby Anhad was the first born at Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital at 2:45 a.m., weighing six pounds and two ounces. “This is the first baby for proud parents Taranpreet and Vijayvir,” the hospital said in a press release issued on Wednesday morning.

Oak Valley Health’s Markham Stouffville Hospital welcomed its first baby of 2025 at 3:33 a.m., measuring 20 inches and weighing seven pounds and 30 ounces

Meanwhile at Brampton Civic Hospital, a baby girl was born just after 6 a.m. Wednesday morning.

About 30 minutes later, Etobicoke General Hospital welcomed its first baby of 2025, weighing six pounds and seven ounces.
