Honda Canada is recalling 12,000 vehicles after discovering some models may have had an improper fuel pipe assembly, which could result in a leak and increase the risk of fire in the event of a crash.
The recall includes certain 2023-24 Passport and 2023-25 Pilot models.
In a press release, the company said some vehicles may have an incomplete connection between the fuel filler neck tube and fuel filler pipe that could cause the two to separate in the event of a crash. The disconnect allows fuel to leak and increases the risk of fire, the release added.
The U.S. recalled over 200,000 Honda vehicles on Thursday for the same possible defect.
Registered owners of all affected models will be contacted by mail in January to bring their vehicle to an authorized Honda dealer for a free inspection. A dealer will inspect the fuel filler pipe and attach the fuel filler neck tube if necessary.
“Honda Canada is announcing this recall to encourage owners of affected vehicles to take them to an authorized dealer for repair as soon as they receive notification,” the notice said.
