How, where and when you can vote

After months of hinting from Ontario PC Leader Doug Ford, it became official that Ontarians will head to the polls for a Feb. 27 election. You can vote by mail, at your local election office, at an advance voting location, or on election day.

Who can vote?

Anyone who is 18 years old, lives in Ontario and holds Canadian citizenship.

Where can you vote?

Voter information cards (VIC) are expected to arrive in mailboxes between Feb. 17-22. The VIC has all the information on what riding you are in, the local election office and polling stations you can attend in advance polls and on election day.

How can I vote?

You can vote by mail, at your local election office, at an advance voting location, or on election day. The Elections Ontario website includes information of what ID is acceptable and how to update change of address and other information. In order to vote, one piece of valid ID is necessary.

Vote by mail

To vote by mail, you must submit a vote-by-mail application by Feb. 21 at 6 p.m. ET, and have a copy of at least one piece of government-issued ID showing your name and home address. This option is available for those outside the province or country.

Can you vote online?

No options to vote online are available in this election.

Voters can go to advance polling stations in their riding between Feb. 20-22.

Attending school away from home?

You can choose to vote in your home riding or the riding where you are attending university or college. Proof of address and ID is necessary, and on-campus voting is available to those who live on-campus.
