Human remains found on a property in Montague Township have been identified as those of Robbie Thomson, a Smiths Falls man who was
reported missing more than two years ago
.
This comes after three people were
charged on with first-degree murder
on Oct. 29 in connection with Thomson’s disappearance. The disappearance was declared a homicide at the time of the arrest, despite the fact Thomson’s body had not yet been found.
On Oct. 30, the day after the arrests, Ontario Provincial Police said they executed a search warrant at a residence on Kelly Jordan Road and located human remains, which were later identified as Thomson’s.
Christopher Fenton, 48, of Montague Township, Erin Mackie, 40, of Montague Township, and Joshua Belfiori, 34, of Kingston, all remain in custody and were scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth on Nov. 5, according to police.
Residents of Kelly Jordan Road, located northeast of Smiths Falls, will continue to see an increased police presence as the investigation continues, OPP said in a release Wednesday.
“Police do not believe there is risk to public safety,” the release stated.
In October, police offered a
$50,000 reward
for information about Thomson’s disappearance.
