Hyundai is recalling nearly 44,000 SUVs in Canada over a possible seatbelt malfunction that could see them detach in the event of a crash.
A total of 43,990 Hyundai Palisades from the 2020 to 2025 model years are affected, according to Transport Canada.
The recall says the driver, front passenger and second-row outboard seatbelt buckles may not have been manufactured properly, and maybe increase the risk of injury in a crash.
Until repairs are completed, Hyundai advises passengers to make sure seatbelts are securely latched by pulling on them after fastening.
“Hyundai will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect and, if necessary, replace the seatbelt buckle(s),” the government agency said.
Owners can check if their vehicle is affected by contacting Hyundai at 1-888-216-2626 or visiting the company’s website.
