Late-night host Jimmy Fallon touched on the state of Canada-U.S. relations in his opener for Monday’s Tonight Show.
Fallon joked that U.S. president Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin will spend their Tuesday meeting “dividing up certain assets.”
“Trump was like, ‘He’ll take Ukraine, I’ll get Canada, we’ll alternate weekends on Greenland,’” he quipped.
The comedian also mentioned a French politician’s call for the U.S. to return the Statue of Liberty to France, saying America is no longer deserving of the monumental gift.
Fallon joked that Canada could follow the politician’s lead and repatriate Canadian actor Ryan Gosling.
“We’re taking him back — give him back. We need Ryan Gosling,” Fallon said to cheers and applause from the audience.
Fallon joins a number of other comedians who have riffed about deteriorating Canada-U.S. relations in recent days, including Mike Myers, who spoofed Elon Musk on Saturday Night Live, and host Stephen Colbert, who mocked tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum.
