Jimmy Kimmel pleaded for Canada to save the U.S. on his late-night TV show Tuesday night, the day after U.S. President Donald Trump agreed to pause tariffs on Canada on Monday.
Kimmel, the host of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” took time to talk about Trump’s repeated idea for Canada to become the 51st state.
The TV personality asked his viewers that if Canada were to become a 51st state, what are the odds it would be a red state?
He noted Canada’s population of 41 million people, which is a little more than the size of California, which has 54 electoral votes.
“If Canada also had 54 electoral votes, forget MAGA,” he said. “Our next president will be a kind-hearted lesbian moose.”
The audience erupted in cheers as he followed up with saying he is “for it” and to, “Save us, Canada. You’re our only hope.”
His commentary follows the pausing of tariffs on Canada on Monday after the newly elected president and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau came to an agreement on new policies at the Canada-U.S. border.
