Former Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau spent Monday evening in Montreal with pop superstar Katy Perry, the Star has confirmed.
Trudeau, 53, and Perry, 40, visited Le Violon, a popular fine dining restaurant in Montreal’s Plateau neighbourhood, said Steven Piñero, the restaurant’s general manager, who did not provide further comment.
Later in the evening, they had drinks at Taverne Atlantic, a trendy spot on Parc Avenue that Trudeau has visited multiple times in the past, according to its general manager Emmanuel Vallières.
“It’s a pretty casual restaurant, we do pizza, hot dogs — but we do have a beautiful terrace, so maybe that’s why he wanted to show Katy the spot,” Vallières added.
Perry is currently on tour in support of her recent album “143,” and is set to perform in Ottawa on Tuesday and in Montreal on Wednesday. Known for smash hits like “Teenage Dream” and “Firework,” Perry is one of the bestselling musical artists of all-time.
Neither Perry nor Trudeau could be reached for comment.
The news was first reported TMZ, an American celebrity news outlet, which said the hangout “started with a scenic park stroll.” The outlet also shared photos showing Trudeau and Perry at Le Violon sitting side by side and talking, and cites an eyewitness who said that “the two sipped cocktails and shared several dishes … including one with lobster.”
TMZ also spoke to the chef who served Trudeau and Perry at Le Violon, who said there was “no PDA (public displays of affection).”
Trudeau, the former Liberal leader, resigned as prime minister in March after nine years in power. He separated from Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, his wife of 18 years, in the summer of 2023.
The former PM recently attended King Charles III’s throne speech wearing bright green and orange Adidas Gazelle running shoes, sparking memes and reaction from the internet.
Perry recently split from actor Orlando Bloom after a seven-year relationship. They share a four-year-old daughter.
Le Violon, located on Rue Marquette, was recently named the best new Canadian restaurant by “Canada’s 100 Best,” a magazine owned and operated by veteran food writer Jacob Richler. The magazine also named it the 11th best restaurant in Canada. The 50-seat restaurant is run by chefs Danny Smiles and Mitch Laughren.
