OTTAWA – Government House Leader Karina Gould says she’s ready to throw her hat in the ring to replace Justin Trudeau as Liberal leader.
Gould says in a video posted to social media that Canadians have lost faith in the party and the Liberals need to earn back their trust.
She says the party needs to rebuild with a leader who has a track record of standing up to bullies and won’t back down.
The 37-year-old millennial is the youngest candidate to declare, just days before the official deadline to enter the race.
She joins former finance minister Chrystia Freeland and former Bank of Canada governor Mark Carney, who both declared their intentions to run for leadership over the past few days.
Gould has represented Burlington, Ont., in the House of Commons since 2015 and serves as the Liberals’ House leader, which has her often facing off with ranking Conservatives during debate in Parliament.
