One person had life-threatening injuries following a two-vehicle collision on eastbound Highway 417 near Nicholas Street on Thursday.
One vehicle was apparently rear-ended by a second vehicle just before 12 noon.
The Ottawa Paramedic Service said preliminary indications were that the driver of the first vehicle had been struck by objects from the rear of the vehicle.
The victim was freed from the vehicle and transported to hospital.
There was no indication of injuries to the second driver.
Ontario Provincial Police Const. Michael Fathi said on Facebook that the eastbound lanes of Highway 417 would be closed at Metcalfe for an “undetermined amount of time” while police investigated the collision.
A Ministry of Transportation traffic camera showed one vehicle stopped on the highway in that area, with the vehicle facing across the left-hand lane.
The Ottawa Paramedic Service spokesperson said the emergency call had been for a vehicle that was rear-ended and then struck the guardrail.
