Transit users headed home on Line 1 can expected longer wait times after a fire at the Wilson TTC yard prevented extra trains from being deployed for rush hour.

Toronto firefighters were called to the Wilson TTC yard at 160 Transit Road for reports of smoke shortly before 2 p.m.

A fire was found below grade at a hydro fault, trackside and not in a building. The power was turned off for some time and some electrical equipment melted.

Toronto Fire is currently working on clearing smoke and turning the power back on.

Because of the fire, the TTC says they were unable to deploy extra trains that are usually added for the evening rush hour. As a result, riders can expected wait times up to six minutes, rather than the usual three minutes.

There are currently 38 trains in use, 17 fewer than the 56 usually deployed for rush hour.

TTC says they are unsure how long the delays will last.

“Although Monday is a lighter travel day, we are deploying extra staff to monitor and manage potential crowding at the busy interchange stations,” read a statement from the TTC.

They are also allowing customers to take the GO train on a TTC fair within city limits.
