A 19-year-old man from Toronto is the sixth person arrested in connection with a Markham real estate agent’s disappearance and homicide.

On Wednesday, York Regional Police (YRP) charged Javin Liu, 19, of Toronto, with manslaughter, accessory after the fact to murder, kidnapping, two counts of conspiracy to commit an indictable offence and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

Yuk-Ying (Anita) Mui, 56, was last seen around 9:30 a.m. on Aug. 9, 2024, when she left her home in the Baycliffe Road and Warden Avenue area. She contacted family members at around 11 a.m. that day and hadn’t been heard from since.

The body of Markham realtor Yuk-Ying (Anita) Mui, 56 (left), was discovered in Parry Sound on Aug. 12, 2024. On Aug. 27, a Canada-wide warrant for First Degree Murder was issued for 47-year-old Zhixiong Marko HU, from the City of Markham. Photo: YRP.

Mui’s white 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE450 SUV was found that same day in the Finch Avenue East and Warden Avenue area in Scarborough.

On Aug. 12, burned human remains were discovered in the area of Avro Arrow Road and Hwy. 400 in McDougall in Parry Sound, Ont. A coroner positively identified the deceased woman as Mui, and a homicide investigation was launched.

A Canada-wide warrant is active for 47-year-old Zhixiong Marko Hu of Markham, who is wanted for first-degree murder in connection to Mui’s death, but authorities believe he fled to Hong Kong.

The connection between Hu and Mui remains unclear, though authorities believe the wanted man was involved in a real estate transaction with Mui concerning a property in Stouffville, Ont.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the YRP Homicide Unit.
