A man allegedly behind a string of carjackings and accused of shooting at several vehicles on Hwy. 401 is facing additional charges in the ongoing investigation, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) announced.

Toronto police were initially called to Dundas and Carroll Streets near Regent Park around 7:15 p.m. on Nov. 27 for reports of a shooting.

Investigators have said that the suspect, later identified as 29-year-old Troy Ledrew of no fixed address, “committed multiple attempted carjackings and shootings” across the city. One man was shot and critically injured during one of the carjackings.

Ledrew then allegedly drove off and crashed into a gas pump at Carlaw Road and Lake Shore Boulevard. The car was later abandoned. He then allegedly attempted to carjack another vehicle while armed with a handgun.

Investigators say Ledrew tried to flee the area on foot when they saw him in the parking lot. He was located a short distance away and taken into custody without incident after a brief foot pursuit. A firearm was also allegedly recovered.

At the time of his arrest, authorities determined that Ledrew was the same suspect wanted for allegedly shooting at several vehicles on Hwy. 401. The accused was charged with 27 offences, including two counts of attempted murder, six counts of robbery with a firearm, two counts of discharging a firearm with intent to endanger life and aggravated assault, among others.

On Tuesday, OPP announced additional charges had been laid against Ledrew, including four counts of attempt to commit murder using a restricted firearm, three counts of possessing a firearm contrary to prohibition order, one count of reckless discharge of a firearm and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, among other related offences.

OPP said the accused remains in police custody and will appear in court on Tuesday. Toronto police confirmed that Ledrew was out on bail at the time of the alleged crime spree.

“The OPP would like to extend their gratitude to the public for their numerous tips, which included dashcam and video footage. We would also like to thank our TPS partner for arresting the accused,” OPP said in a statement through a news release.

The investigation is ongoing.
