A man and a dog were rescued on Saturday, Feb. 28, after falling through the ice on the Rideau River in Barrhaven.
Ottawa Fire Services
said a 9-1-1 caller reported that the dog had fallen through the
ice
and was partially submerged in the water just past 1:15 p.m.
When the OFS Ice Rescue Team arrived at the scene near the intersection of Prince of Wales and Strandherd drives, it found that both the dog and a bystander had gone into the water.
Both were pulled from the river at 1:29 p.m.
A spokeperson for the
Ottawa Paramedic Service
said the man, approximately 50 years of age, was assessed at the scene, but was not transported to hospital.
