A man from Toronto is facing charges including assault and arson following a two-alarm residential fire in Etobicoke, police said.

Toronto Fire Services (TFS) responded to a residential fire at an address in the Lake Shore Boulevard West area near Royal York Road just before 1 a.m. on Saturday.

Officials said a fire broke out on the building’s fourth floor, and two people were transported to a hospital with minor injuries.

A Toronto Police Services (TPS) spokesperson later confirmed with CityNews that two people were involved in a domestic dispute before the fire, leading to one individual injuring themselves while attempting to evacuate the premises.

Police said a 33-year-old man from Toronto is in custody and was charged with assault, arson with disregard for human life, mischief endangering life and two counts of failing to comply with a release order.

The accused was slated to appear in court at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
