Man charged in two Ottawa stabbings, one fatal

The Ottawa Police Service has charged a man in relation to two

separate stabbing incidents

that happened in Ottawa this month, including one homicide in the ByWard Market.

Osanhenoma Igbinedion, 35, was charged with second-degree murder in relation to an Oct. 17 fatal stabbing and attempted murder in relation to a stabbing Oct. 18.

Police responded to reports of a stabbing in the ByWard Market at 10:39 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 17 in the King Edward Avenue and York Street area. The victim was transported to hospital but later died from his injuries on Oct. 30, police said in a news release.

A day later, at 3:08 p.m., officers responded to another call about a robbery in progress in the Cumberland Street and St. Patrick Street area, where the suspect reportedly stabbed someone. The victim suffered from serious but non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Igbinedion’s next court appearance is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 17.
