Provincial police arrested a 55-year-old man early Friday after concerned residents reported a man sitting with a firearm in a parked car in a cemetery in Greater Madawaska.
Patrol officers answered the call, while additional officers, including members of the Emergency Response Team, were called for backup.
Crisis negotiators also responded. Officers surrounded the vehicle and began communicating with the man, police said.
The standoff went on for several hours, and the man was taken into custody without incident at about 4:30 a.m., according to police.
There were no reported injuries. Police said the man has been charged with transporting a firearm in a careless manner.
He was released and is to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke at a later date.
