WINNIPEG – The Manitoba’s government’s new advertising campaign encouraging people to Buy Local will see some of its dollars spent on international social media sites.
The government announced on Wednesday $140,000 for the four-week ad campaign to encourage people to support Manitoba businesses, which may be harmed by tariffs threatened by the United States.
The government said the campaign would be on digital platforms, billboards and radio, and Premier Wab Kinew didn’t directly answer when asked whether some money would go to non-local media platforms such as Facebook.
Ads later popped up on Facebook and Instagram.
Opposition Progressive Conservative Leader Wayne Ewasko says the NDP premier is telling people to shop locally but not doing so himself.
Deputy premier Uzoma Asagwara says the government is spending money locally to support Manitoba businesses.
