Microsoft announced Tuesday that it will spend more than $7.5 billion over the next two years to build new AI and digital infrastructure to shore up Canada’s digital sovereignty.

The tech giant said the new capacity, expected to come online in the second half of 2026, is part of a five-point plan designed to defend Canada’s cybersecurity, keep Canadian data on Canadian soil, protect Canadian privacy, support national AI developers, and ensure the continuity of Canadian cloud services.
