The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is expanding its pistachio-related recalls once again, now into 2026, as chocolate and butter products by two companies join those affected by salmonella risk.
The CFIA is calling back several Peace by Chocolate products, in various sizes. This includes different kinds of the 15-assorted chocolate box, 24-assorted box and the 32-assorted chocolate box, as well as the Dubai style chocolate pistachio and kunafa bar. The 340g nut and seed butter by NuttyHero in maple cinnamon, coconut crunch and chocolate bliss also joined the list of recalled products on Jan. 2.
A full list can be found on the Recalls Canada website.
These products are the latest to join the CFIA’s ongoing food investigation into pistachio products or foods containing pistachios. Since the first recall several months ago, more than 100 people have fallen ill nationwide due to possible salmonella contamination, linked to pistachios, according to the agency.
The CFIA warns that if people have a recalled product, to throw it away or return it to the location of purchase. It should not be served, sold or used.
Food contaminated with salmonella may not always be obvious, the agency said. However, especially for people with weakened immune systems, including young children and pregnant women, infections can prove to be fatal.
Symptoms of salmonella include chills, fever, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and stomach cramps among others. If a person becomes sick after consuming a recalled product, the CFIA said to contact your health care provider immediately.
To date, the CFIA has recalled 330 pistachio products or products containing pistachio due to the salmonella risk. Dozens of companies have been implicated in the recalls, from Canadian chocolate companies like Peace by Chocolate, based in Nova Scotia, to bakeries and grocers from coast to coast.
