An unspecified “new issue” now blocks east end service on OC Transpo Line 1, which has been shut since a power line broke in Wednesday’s ice storm, interim OC Transpo GM Troy Charter wrote early Friday:
“Due to a new issue with the Overhead Catenary System (OCS) in the east end of Line 1, customers can continue to expect:
- Line 1 service to operate in the west between Tunney’s Pasture and uOttawa
- R1 bus service will continue to run between Lyon and Blair stations
“All efforts are being made to restore full Line 1 service as quickly as possible.”
Charter said in the note that Rideau Transit Maintenance (RTM) had completed the removal of ice buildup across the power system, except near Lees Station, and continue to work to remove a stopped train at this station.
“All efforts are being made to restore full Line 1 service as quickly as possible.”
Thursday, Charter had expressed hope that the LRT service would be restored soon.
On Wednesday, OC Transpo staff reported electrical “arcing” on trains between Hurdman and Lees stations.
Damage to the overhead catenary system — which powers the LRT network — was also reported in the same corridor, Charter said, and it appeared to be related to weather.
