If there’s one thing you needed to know about the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards, it’s that this was Taylor Swift’s race to lose.

Hours after her much-talked-about endorsement of Kamala Harris for president in the upcoming U.S. election, the pop megastar walked the black carpet at the UBS Arena in New York City as the awards show’s most-nominated performer, looking to break Beyoncé’s record number of wins. She was nominated for 12 awards so she wouldn’t even have to win in every category to have a shot at making VMA history.
