Commuters should expect delays on the O-Train Line 1 on Thursday as OC Transpo says service is down to a single track after it discovered a defect on the overhead wire system.
The problem was discovered at about 8 a.m. on Thursday on the section of the wires between Rideau and uOttawa stations, according to Troy Charter, interim general manager of transit services.
“This element needs to be replaced before trains can travel through this section of track to avoid further damage,” Charter wrote in a memo to city council.
Line 1 will continue to operate between Tunney’s Pasture and Blair stations, but longer travel times should be expected, the memo said.
One track between Rideau and uOttawa stations is not in use, and Line 1 service is only available on the westbound platform at Rideau and Parliament stations.
Maintenance teams will be repairing the defective piece overnight, once LRT operations end for the day.
“It’s currently anticipated that Line 1 will resume full service on Friday morning,” Charter wrote.
