Work continues Thursday as OC Transpo Line 1 remains closed east of uOttawa station to deal with damages to the system’s overhead power system in the Wednesday’s freezing rain storm.

“Focus is now on recovering from freezing rain storm and preparing for tomorrow’s transit service,” Interim Transpo GM Troy Charter said in an update memo Wednesday evening.

For travellers, starting Thursday morning:

  • Line 1 service will continue to operate in the west between Tunney’s Pasture and uOttawa stations.
  • R1 bus service will operate between Blair and Lyon stations.
  • OC Transpo staff will be at key stations to support customers during their trips.

“Transpo anticipates Line 1 service between Tunney’s and Blair stations will be restored by the afternoon commute, but we will continue to provide Council and customers with updates,” Charter’s memo says.

A stopped train near Lees Station was removed and crews were to replace a short segment of damaged overhead wire.

The work to replace the wires is expected to continue into Thursday.

On Wednesday, Transpo staff once again reported electrical “arcing” on trains between Hurdman and Lees stations, Charter reported to councillors.

Damage to the overhead catenary system — which powers the LRT network — was also reported in the same corridor, Charter said, and it appears to be related to weather.
