One person is dead following a fire Saturday night in The Nation Township.
At about 10 p.m., OPP officers from the Hawkesbury detachment and the Nation Township Fire Department responded to a “fully involved” structure fire on Concession Road 20, police said in a news release Monday.
Police and fire crews were told that one tenant of the building was missing, and that another tenant had attempted to rescue them, but was forced out by the smoke and flames.
Human remains were found inside the heavily damaged residence on Monday, and the deceased is believed to be the missing tenant, a 57-year-old woman who was not identified.
An investigation is underway, but the fire is not believed to be suspicious, police said.
The Nation Township is located about 75 km east of Ottawa.
