Progressive Conservative MPP Michael Ford is turning the page and won’t be running in the upcoming provincial election.
Ford – who is the nephew of Ontario Premier Doug Ford and MPP for York-South Weston – shared the announcement on Friday in a social media post.
“Serving the people of Toronto and Ontario has been a truly wonderful experience – one that I have not taken for granted,” Ford wrote. “With that said, I have made the decision to take on a new chapter in my life and not seek reelection in the next provincial election in Ontario.”
Ford was first elected in 2022 and swiftly appointed minister of citizenship and multiculturalism by his uncle as rookie MPP. He served in the role for two years until September 2024, when he announced a leave of absence to prioritize his health and well-being.
Before provincial politics, Ford served as a Toronto City councillor for Etobicoke North and a school board trustee.
His statement on Friday did not specify what’s next for the 31-year-old politician, but Ford says he looks forward to “staying actively engaged” and doing his part to “advance what’s best for the city and province” he calls home.
