Two men and a woman have been arrested in connection with what the
Ontario Provincial Police
describe as “numerous recent police impersonation frauds.”
An OPP news release said officers had responded to a report of a
fraud
at a residence in Hawkesbury on the afternoon of March 5, with the victim reporting that they had received a phone call earlier that day from an individual identifying himself as a police officer.
The fraudster said the victim’s bank cards had been compromised and someone would attend the residence to retrieve them for security purposes. A brief time later, a female arrived at the residence collected the cards.
Later, the victim discovered that her cards had been used to withdraw money at numerous locations.
OPP officers in Clarence-Rockland subsequently received information regarding a female matching the description of the suspect using the credit cards at a local financial institution.
Officers located that suspect along with two males in a vehicle. All three were arrested and were being held in custody for bail hearings, Friday’s release said.
The investigation remained ongoing, the OPP added.
Anyone with information about these police impersonation frauds was asked to contact the Russell County detachment of the OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Anonymous tips can be sent to Crime Stoppers toll-free at 1-800-222-8477.
