Ottawa fire crews battled a fire in a townhome on Waterfern Way for more than an hour on Sunday afternoon.

Ottawa Fire Services took multiple 911 calls at 3:02 p.m. about flames and black smoke coming from an attached townhome in the 100 block of Waterfern.

After arriving, firefighters confirmed there was heavy, black smoke and fire at the back of the building, and additional resources were sent to the scene at 3:06 p.m.

By 4:23 p.m., the fire was under control, the fire service said in a news release.

Two full searches of the townhome were conducted, but no occupants were found inside.

A “fire watch” was set up to have a truck remain at the scene in case there were any flareups.

An Ottawa Fire Services investigator was sent to the townhome to find the cause and origin of the fire.
