Ottawa firefighters had to battle flames that were coming from the roof of a commercial highrise on Michael Street North on Monday.
Ottawa Fire Services took multiple 911 calls at 4:53 p.m. from people who said there was a lot of black smoke coming from the building’s roof. (Photos on the fire service’s X account Monday showed fire trucks in front of the Parsons Corporation building on Michael Street.)
After arriving at the scene, fire crews confirmed smoke and flames were visible on the roof and additional resources were brought to the location. A fast attack was initiated, and by 5:37 p.m. the blaze had been brought under control.
Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the area of its origin before it could spread.
A news release issued just before 6 p.m. stated that firefighters had started searching the building to see if anyone was still inside, but it did not say whether anyone had been found in the building.
An Ottawa Fire Services investigator was dispatched to the scene.
