A 33-year-old Ottawa man has been arrested after a hit-and-run involving a pedestrian on Dec. 18 near the intersection of McArthur and Lafontaine avenues in Vanier.
The man, who Ottawa police did not identify in a news release Monday, was charged with failing to remain at the scene of a collision resulting in bodily harm and not having a valid driver’s licence.
The original Dec. 18 Ottawa Citizen story about the collision said the pedestrian, a woman, was in hospital in critical but stable condition. Monday’s release from police described the woman’s injuries as serious.
At the time of the hit-and-run, police said they were seeking a minivan that was driven away from the scene. They said a red Dodge minivan had struck the woman while she was walking on the sidewalk just before 10 a.m.
On Monday, police said the investigation continued, and they asked anyone who witnessed the collision or who may have dashcam or security footage and has not yet spoken with police to come forward.
Anyone with information should contact the Fatal Collision Investigation Unit at 613-236-1222, extension 2345. Anonymous tips can be submitted by calling Crime Stoppers toll-free at 1-800-222-8477 or crimestoppers.ca.
The arrested Ottawa man appeared in court on Dec. 19.
