An Ottawa man has been charged after a series of River Road robberies.
In a news release Friday, the Ottawa Police Service said the robberies had taken place over the past few weeks in the 600 block of River Road.
“On July 2, the suspect entered the area and demanded cash,” the release read. “He was subsequently detained by members of the public until officers arrived on scene.” A headline on the release described the incident as a commercial robbery.
During the investigation, it became apparent that the individual was a suspect in multiple robberies in the area, police said.
Michael Colborne, 45, has been charged with five counts of robbery, disguise with intent and possession of a weapon.
Police said, while they “appreciated the public’s vigilance,” they do not encourage citizens to attempt arrests, and that anyone witnessing a crime in progress should call police immediately.
