The remains of an Ottawa man have been found in a township east of North Bay, Ont., according to Ontario Provincial Police.

North Bay OPP said they responded to a report of suspected human remains on Dec. 28 north of Cedar Lake in the townships of Head, Clara and Maria. The townships are located along the Ottawa River and on the northern edge of Algonquin Park.

Police announced Tuesday that the deceased individual had been identified as Hakim Muhikira, 26, of Ottawa.

“Preliminary information suggests that there are no signs of a broader threat,” OPP said in a news release Tuesday.

OPP did not respond to questions about whether Mihikira had previously been reported missing, but Cst. Kyler Brouwer said in a follow-up email that “foul play has not been ruled out.”

Anyone with information that may assist the ongoing investigation is urged to contact the North Bay OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Should you wish to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or ontariocrimestoppers.ca.
